More research

Just up to more research and reference ideas. Here's what I got

Researching for my Design Annual

I was researching different creative books and whatnot, and I found a couple things that I thought were worth sharing.

Ceative Print Design

Everyone needs to see some good print design... I came across some when I was researching for my design annual, thought I'd share!!

I put in that felt one because I always forget that you can basically say or write really, anything you need to in the medium you are describing by using photoshop. Very useful.

Take a look at these logos

It's always smart to create a logo that is really eye catching. That makes the viewer take a step back and realize something about your business...

Here are some great logos that I thought did that..

Great reference books

Hi everyone, just came across some great reference books on the dieline.com.

Can a graphic designer be a catalyst for positive change? Breaking down the concept of "green design" step-by-step, respected industry leader Brian Dougherty captures the ability of designers to communicate, persuade, and ultimately spread a socially and ecologically responsible message to both consumers and corporations. Green Graphic Design reframes the way designers can think about the work they create, while remaining focused on cost constraints and corporate identity. Simple, eco-innovative changes are demonstrated in all phases of the design process, including:
·  Picking projects  · Strategizing with clients · Choosing materials for manufacture and shipping ·  Understanding users ·  Picking ink and paper for printing ·   Binding  · Packing final products ·  Building strong brands  ·  Working with clients to foster transparency and corporate social responsibility
Fully illustrated and packed with case studies of green design implementation, this reference guide more than inspires; a "sustainability scorecard" and a complete glossary of key terms and resources ensure that anyone in the design field can implement practical green solutions. Green Graphic Design is an indispensable resource for graphic designers ready to look to the future of their business and the environment.

From Jim Krause, Bestselling Author of the Index Series
Features a lively and engaging perspective by a respected design authority
Offers an in-depth examination of the creative and practical issues involved in all of the important areas, such as font anatomy, headlines, and body texts
Design expert Jim Krause, author of the best-selling Index series, returns with a look at type, one of the most fascinating design topics. With conferences and blogs devoted to type, the subject continues to capture the attention of designers. Now there is a book that does the same. Type Index eschews the ponderous style found in other books in favor of a fresh, accessible approach. This is just the type of book designers have been waiting for!

A new take on color combinations!
Color Index 2 contains hundreds of different color combinations, each with an accurate formula for both print and web use. You'll easily find the best colors for your piece with chapters organized by dominant hue, and with unique expansion palettes--sets of four related hues arranged from dark to light--that allow you to explore even more color combinations for limitless possibilities.
Designers, illustrators, photographers and fine artists alike will find this book an indispensible tool when it comes to finding color-related ideas and solutions. A companion to its best-selling predecessor, Color Index 2 offers even more colors and fresh new combinations of colors, making it easier than ever to create harmonious palettes for whatever project you're working on

Some good packages

I always find that packaging really has the whole deal. It's 3D, it's got type, it's got design elements in more than one area... I think it's got everything. So here are some more packages I think are worth noting

this one is great. It's simple, it's easy, it makes sense.

This one, same deal. Clear, Simple, and looks delicious

Why didn't anyone ever thing about shaping the label to match the jelly? great concept in my book.

A Great Place to find Nature Photos for your Publications

Are you sick of erasing or cloning the stamp off istock photos? then you should go to pixdaus. When your trying to crank out a publication and you were specifically told to use photography over whatever else, then here is a great place to get ideas, natural color palettes, and even pretty decent quality pictures. Photography is a big part of graphic design and publication design and it seems wise to keep up with it...

Screen Printing

As a graphic designer in study, I've picked up on a lot of tools and helpful hints to get me where I want to go. My packaging class this semester has really made me pay attention to something I never had before; texture. And with publication design being 2D, I think screen printing is a great way to get that DIY texture or that weird way the light hits it... anyway, I think its a great thing to know how to do or to know what is currently going on with it.

therefore..  here are some I found that I really liked

Party Invitations are a Great Way to Research Trendy Patterns

So Paper Source is the motherload of different papers, invitations, cardstocks, etc. I just had an epiphany about this place; it is a great way to look at color and pattern trends. It's actually just a great way to research what's current. This website keeps up with trends almost as fast as the fashion industry and that's saying something.

Here are some great examples of invitations and their patterns I found.
