Photoshop can do Wonders

Here are some great funny or ironic photoshoped images. It's always good to keep in mind that with good photoshop skills, you can make anything you want happen in a picture to convey something.

I could see this picture in an advertisement. It's one of those stop and make you look again kind of things.

This one is probably in the same category. I've seen this on a lot of fruit drinks lately.

This one is just kinda cool. I mean, it's a piece of brocoli

I just thought this one was creepy. The nose ear creeps me out. Besides that, very cool

Job Hunting? Better Have that Creative Resume...

So since the job market sucks, obviously, we're always looking for a leg up. Here are some creative resume designs that I thought were pretty nice.

These two are very type oriented, and I'm always one for the typedesign

This one was cool because its just different. I like the color scheme. I don't think this would work for everyone but you could change it around to make it fit your information.

This one is my favorite because I've recently been really into packaging. I would love to show this on my website and I would love to actually leave a package with the person I interview with. It wouldn't really be piled with all the others they get.

The Wedding Invitation

I feel like I'm running out of different production blog ideas, but don't despair! I have found some actually interesting wedding invitations. Wedding invitations are the epitome of bad boring design through the centuries, but I found a few that I thought were much more interestingly designed and one that was just funny.

I thought this was a very interesting design. Wedding invitations suck because they're always so generic, but this one really has personality and an awesome way to get at the information. I really like it because its interactive and it would definitely have the curiosity appeal.

This one, I'm not going to say is a great design. The picture is hilarious, but its been seen before. The type makes it seem girly but the picture says boy to me, and there is a typo. Nonetheless, I love this because its for a WEDDING which are always taken too seriously. So therefor I like this.

This one is outstanding, expensive, but a great idea! So you don't get an invitation, you get a stamp, ink, and a roller so you can make your own! I think it would be a great idea to tell all the guests to bring in what they stamped their invitation on and see what everyone would come up with. I've never seen anything like this.

This one I just liked because of the typography being the singular source of imagery. It looks sleek and playful.

Brand Identity

A design company called Multistorey did a brand identity package for a custom jewelery store.

I really liked it because of its simple color palate and shapes. Not only is it simple in design, it is actually complicated in how it works. I love it because its a good that really shows off the texture and uniqueness of the product.

The same company also did brand identity for a children's theater.

I feel like they have a very solid feel throughout their publications. I love the feeling of texture you get through it.

Its fun and childish yet appropriate and professional.

Simple and lovely.

Advertising That makes you look twice

Like I've said in my past posts, I really like things that make sense and once you get it, you don't forget it. This is one of those things. If I were walking up to this I would probably say what the hell? And then you read it and you get this "ahhhh I see" reaction.

Here's an ambient advertisement that I really love. It's for one of the office supply stores. Great.

This one is my favorite. FedEx just kicked UPS in the ass with this one.

Creative Business Cards

I am a fan of the business card that makes you think, "HAH! I get it!" You can achieve this with a certain shape, a card that has a certain function, looks a certain way... I found these three business cards that I really loved...

This one is great, radio presenter. I love how simple it is and that the shape just says it all.

This is another great one, for a personal trainer. It just clicks in your head doesn't it? Oh HAHA! its a rubber band for a great personal trainer, this is obviously one you will remember.

This one is by far my favorite, its for a divorce lawyer. Great idea! It really catches your interest and keeps your brain from forgetting about them.

Pantone Makes Paint

So I'm working on a Fuller O'Brien paint packaging project right now. While researching, I found that Pantone has come out with its own paint products which I thought was a really good idea.

I really enjoyed how they stayed within their brand, really captured Pantone's essence in a 3D paint product. I like the simple design and their simple type. I feel that any visual artist would, as long as budget permits, buy this product because of the equity most artists have put into Pantone.

PepsiCo Fueloshophy

So this post is just on one product - Pepsi's "Fuelosophy", their new, completely original, completely natural, energy booster drink. I thought I'd do just one post because their packaging design is, to me, superb, in this avenue.

My favorites are most certainly the unconventional ones. Today, I see the trend for fruit drinks that are all natural being the fresh fruit falling with perfect droplets of water and whatnot. I think its way overdone. I found that I was drawn to the black bottle with the fresh fruit more than the white one because its not as conventional. After figuring that out, I realized that my favorite bottle was the black bottle with the fruit cartoons because its hip, fresh looking, and has an interesting design. Besides my favorite choice, I also enjoyed the other bottles using cartoons. They definitely say "BUY ME" to my age group.

Pivot Design's Pub. Designs

As I was meandering through the space/time/web continuum for some more stuff to show everyone I ran into a design firm named Pivot Designs. They have a pretty cool intro to their website so I thought it would be worth looking through. I found three interesting and aesthetically different publications tha tI liked.

the first one...

Was for the Brooks Brother's named Generations of Style which celebrated their 185 year old heritage.

I thought they had a classic, neat, yet interesting look to them.

The second one...

was for a pioneering biotechnology research company to celebrate all of their accomplishments.

Sounds pretty boring, but I thought their page and a half photo spreads and scientific yet modern color scheme worked well.

The third one was...

for a bookstore named Uppercase Books who were celebrating a particular music club that brought good to the society.

I thought their bright colors, action photos, crazy typefaces worked to their goal's benefit.

Three Different Poster Approaches

So there are a lot of different posters out there. Professionals can make them, amateurs can make them, and people who should not make them can make them. It's really easy right? Well not exactly and if you aren't the most skilled, here are some good tips for the road.

Always incorporate hierarchy with your typography. The most important thing in this poster is Andy Smith who is I guiess the best dj on the list. Then it leads your eye down to the rest of the names that are interestingly placed and include different weights.

If your an illustrator then make use of it! A unique and intricate, or simple for that matter, illustration can go a long way to catching someone's eye. Use compatible colors and make sure everything is readable and you're golden.

For those who like the more simple approach... maybe aren't very good at illustration, photography is the way to go. I  like this poster because the type is stressed and matches the stress on the photo and its contrasting in a good way. So use a photo, but use it in a separate way and make sure that the photo matches the rest of the poster.

ID's design annual: Student Work

As I was going through the same design annual I found a selection of winning student work. I think it's good for you to really look at other winning student work to see what kind of competition your working against.

This was an informative movie clip/commercial that is about the climate. It gets plus points from me because one, its not green, two, there is no Al Gore, three, I haven't heard of any similar concepts. Here's the description...

" FROM THE VERY FIRST SECOND of this 30-second PSA, the jurors were riveted.  A wide-eyed school girl in braids and a uniform looks on as a panel debates the necessity of spending trillions of dollars on climate change—all the while, black smoke wafts out of their mouths and noses. One talking head asks, “I’ve been around for a long time and I’m seeing no ill effects from this so-called climate change—are you?” The answer is obvious as the girl wipes greasy black ashes off a desk. The panel members then tilt their heads up, open wide, and blow a thick, steady stream of black smoke while this message appears on the screen: “Let’s stop blowing smoke about climate change. Our future needs action.”"

This is a computer, obviously. But the student painstakingly made it/packaged it out of cardboard. It includes everything that a regular computer has, the only issue the student found was of course, durability. I thought it was kinda dadaist..

This I thought was interesting even though I think the description makes it hard to understand. It's a statistic book. So the whole idea is when trying to figure out your caloric intake or something that you would get something visually pleasing to look at instead of a lame bar graph. Pretty cool, but I don't think it's very original.
